Use /proc/sys and sysctl to modify and set kernel runtime parameters

This commands will display all the kernel tuneables.

#sysctl -a

You can grep any specific tuneable

sysctl -a | grep ip_forward

Convert linux machine into router.

sysctl -a | grep ip_forward

enter this value into the file

#vim /etc/sysctl.d/ip-forward.conf
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

Now Restart the machine


After the reboot the value for net.ipv4.ip_forward will change from 0 to 1 .
In this way you can change any tuneables.
